Exchange programs for artists have a long tradition. The opportunity to live and work in a foreign place for a certain period of time has lost none of its fascination. The Rathausgalerie brings together three artist residencies initiated by Munich artists: AlmResidency, Jet Leg and LongegaProject. The exhibition focuses on collective collaboration, international exchange and the crossing of borders.
A modular “installation on wheels” will be created, accompanied by several events in German, English and German sign language. With city-wide activities Want to stay where I have never been enters the public space. Three flags by artists who are unable to take part in the project in person will be displayed on the façade of the Department of Arts and Culture at Burgstraße 4.
Artists participating in the exhibition: Magdalena Jooss, Janina Totzauer, Carina Müller, Danilo Bas-tione, Siyoung Kim, Youlee Ku, Fabian Feichter.
International guest artists: Saqa Bovand, Hyeyoung Ku, Laumkon, Irene Macalli, Maria Mbereshu, Rebecca Moccia, Thandi Pinto and Matteo Pizzolante.
At the performative opening of the exhibition on May 9, 2025, 7 p.m., City Councillor David Süß, on behalf of the Lord Mayor, and Nina Oswald, Department of Arts and Culture, will speak.
The event will be translated into German sign language. Admission to the exhibition and participation in the programs are free.
The project is supported by Verbindungslinien des BBK Bayern (with funds from the Bavarian State Ministry of Science and the Arts), the Erwin and Gisela von Steiner Foundation and the Cultural Department of the City of Munich. It takes place in cooperation with the City of Munich’s artist-in-residence program / Ebenböckhaus.
